Potchefstroom is a farming town situated in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda region of the North West Province. It was founded in 1838 on the banks of the Mooi River by Andries Potgieter and his trekkers. Potchefstroom was then Transvaal’s oldest Voortrekker town and later became the capital of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek.
The Potchefstroom Campus of the North West University is a popular choice of tertiary education for students. This town is known for its industrial, service and agricultural growth and includes industries such as steel, food and chemical processing.
